For the past five years I have been teaching my students artificial intelligence as an applied math and computer science course. It’s been a great experience and I hope my students have a much fuller understanding of this exciting new technology.
I’m pretty sure that we’re all aware of the growing field of machine learning, or at least we should be. But do we really understand what it is and what it does? There’s a good reason that “deep” learning, the part of artificial intelligence that deals with the complexity of high-dimensional data, has been referred to as “the black art.
Its a complicated technology and I think a lot of the people who study it don’t understand it all that well. It is a complex concept that has many applications and all kinds of uses. Its often useful when it comes to machine learning, but its also used for a lot of different things, including predicting human behavior. So I think that if you were to take a class on it, you would probably spend a large chunk of your time on the basics.
In the movie Pitch Black, we see a scene where the hero, a machine, is trying to take over the world. It is a scene that I think many of us could relate to. We see this machine that looks a lot like an AI program, but it isn’t. Its been programmed with the desires of a human, but it can’t have the human desires.
You might question why this is important? Because I think that for a lot of people, the idea of a machine that looks human at first glance is still alien.
AI is a term that refers to a computer program that is intelligent. There are a number of different types, but the most common are those that are programmed to mimic a human’s abilities. For example, a robot that will take over your house and be your house manager. In this case, it is programmed not to take over your house because it has no desire to do so. It may also be programmed to take over your job because it has no desire to do so.
In AI research, we find that we tend to focus on people who are making big strides in AI research because they are the first to discover how to make a new kind of AI. But we should also stop and consider that there are other AI advances that are quite subtle. A simple example is that we find that we tend to focus on people who are making progress on AI research because they tend to discover many more subtle advances.
We’ve all heard of the “hockey stick” curve, but perhaps more importantly we’ve all heard of the “SIS” curve. The SIS curve is a graph which plots the number of years ago a particular event is taking place against the number of years later, and the pattern is that SIS events increase exponentially as they get older. The SIS event we’re interested in is the one that occurs one day after Christmas.
The SIS event is a graph of the number of years since Christmas. It goes back to the early 1970s. It seems that AI researchers are trying to understand the SIS curve using a technique called “deep learning” (a.k.a. “deep learning” is the way that an AI learns). Deep learning is a way to train AI using examples of similar training data (in our example, the data that makes up the SIS events).
Deep learning is a technique that uses machine learning techniques to learn something or another. This technique allows for us to use examples of data and create new knowledge without being given data in the first place. The techniques that are used in deep learning can include things like deep neural networks or even an advanced form of neural networks.
