For most of our lives our lives are in the hands of others. We work for our jobs, and then we work for others. This goes for our children, our parents, our spouses, our friends, and ourselves. It is important for us to develop a sense of responsibility within our own lives. This is essential to the process of learning and growth.
One of the many things that has made reading this blog so enjoyable is the number of people who have shared their experiences with others. A few weeks ago, I went to a conference at work and was lucky enough to have a free seat at the reception table. A guy in his early 30s came into the reception area and said, “I have a question.
The man in question was in the room for two hours. He had to wait in a line of about 10 people for the entire time. He is a senior manager, who was working at the time and was not allowed to leave. The guy wanted to know what he thought about this particular conference.
He was the only manager in the entire conference room. He was obviously bored. When he said he wanted to ask a question, he told the receptionist that he would wait in line. The guy kept saying, I’ll wait in line, I’ll wait in line. The receptionist said, “I’m sorry, but you’re blocking my line.” The man said, I wasn’t blocking your line.
It is likely that this was one of the most frustrating interactions that any manager has ever had. When you say you dont mind waiting in line, the receptionist says, Im sorry, but you are blocking my line. When the manager says youre blocking his line, the receptionist says, Im sorry, but you are blocking my line. When the manager says youre blocking my line, the receptionist says, Ill wait in line.
This is the thing that makes it so much more frustrating and frustrating for managers. In a perfect world, you should always have the line, and the people who need it should have it. But it simply isn’t that way. There are people who cannot wait and do not care how long it takes, and there are people who do want to be waited on and can wait.
It has to be this way because the people who can wait are the ones who wait the longest. The people who want to be waited on are the ones who are most likely to do everything in the least amount of time. And the people who don’t care are the ones who do everything in the most time. So the managers who are constantly saying, “Please wait while we fix this,” are constantly inconveniencing the people who want to be waited on.
The problem is that the people who say please wait while we fix this are the ones that spend the most time on their computers. They are the people who are most likely to be out working the most. So the people who think that being waited on is a good idea are the ones who are most likely to be the most out working.
The biggest problem with waiting on a boss or a manager is that you end up spending time with them during business hours. So if you don’t want to be waited on and you might be out working your own free time, then you might want to think about getting a new job.
The same goes for getting a new job. The most productive people are the ones who are getting a new job right away. If you dont want to be out working for the hours you have to work, then you should look for a new job.
