The term self-aware is probably the most overused one in the world of game design. In this case, self-aware is the ability to act on your own volition. Self-awareness isn’t just about being able to read a manual, or even being able to read a book. What it means is the ability to fully own your actions.

This was a hard concept for me to grasp. In game design, as in life, we need to be able to control ourselves to a certain extent. Whether it’s a character or a person, when we act, we create our own reality, and that reality is the basis for our actions. What makes a person act is the way they interpret what they do and why they do it. When we think we’re acting on our own volition, we’re not.

One of the hardest things for me to understand is the difference between a game and a life. I think some of the time, we all act on our own volition (not always, but often enough), however in a game, we have the ability to control our own actions, or lack thereof. In a game, we can choose to act in some certain way, but if we don’t like it, we can stop acting and return to reality.

There is nothing quite like a game to challenge you to control your own actions. I enjoy the occasional game that allows me to explore a new world. A game is nothing more than a world to be explored, but I love to see the different ways that they use the environment. For example, in a game I love, I can choose to explore the environment by walking on the ground, climbing up trees, or even swimming through lakes.

In a game where you have to control your own actions, it’s often difficult to see the world around you and appreciate it’s beauty. This is why I love gaming more than most. It’s so much more rewarding to take a moment to look at the world around you and to appreciate the beauty of the world within, rather than to just act.
