I am a big believer in the idea that when something is uncomfortable, you have the best chance of changing it. I am also a planner, so I always try to plan ahead. I also love the fact that I have a lot of people to talk to when times are slow.

For a while now I have been getting asked about what I do for a living and what I have to say about it. And I usually tell them that I am the director of strategy for Arkane Studios, a firm that I founded in 2000. That’s awesome! That’s awesome that you’ve been working in the games industry since you were just a kid. I can’t imagine the industry being any different.
It’s really hard to be a director these days. Today’s game development environment is so intense and fast paced that if you aren’t involved in it, you will probably feel like you have to be. I think a lot of the reason for this is that many successful games are designed by game developers and thus have a very demanding and rigid structure. They are made to be played and then killed off. But, because of this, directors have to be incredibly dedicated and have a great work ethic.
I think for game developers, the hardest thing is to be a director. Many of our members are developers, and this is the hardest job to do. I love working on games and I think I have a great work ethic, but the other thing that is hard about the job is that most of our members are also writers, so they have the same kind of long hours and rigid schedule. This makes it much harder for them to be able to stay motivated and give their best.
