My husband, Daniel, and I have been married for 21 years, and have been together for 18. We have two daughters, who are now in their twenties. In the last few years, we have been making a change in our lives, and this has led to us being more aware of our surroundings and their surroundings. This is true in real life as well, where we’re often surprised to see how little we know ourselves. It’s because we’ve stopped and noticed that we’ve become more aware of the world around us. We know that we have our own identity, and we’re not always sure what that is.
In this day and age, we often have our own little mental “I’m-not-thinking” game where we wonder, “Am I thinking?” or “Am I thinking about this?”. We are aware of this process, and are trying to learn from it, but we do not always remember how we got there.
We tend to focus on the things that we do or are aware of that are causing us to think in certain ways. But, we’ve been able to change a lot of our habits, routines, and impulses over the years. But we tend to not notice how we have changed until we have a little trouble getting out of bed or walking down the road. This is because we tend to just think that we are doing fine now.
Yes and no. We can think to ourselves that we’re doing well at this point and then stop and think about how awful it is, but that’s not the same thing as actually feeling that way.
