If you can’t imagine getting off your computer, then you can’t imagine getting back on. No one has ever said that, but I believe it. It’s kind of like the difference between a monkey and a hamster (and I know I am paraphrasing here, but I’m paraphrasing). Our brains are just so limited, so small, so tiny, that our brains are like the hamster’s cage.
Its like a hamster with a smaller cage. No matter how big or small you are in your brain, you are limited in your ability to focus on something. The problem however, is that we have this tiny little place in our brains that says “I need to do this right now, and I can do it, but I won’t until the timer comes down, and I will need to think about it again while I do this. I need to do this right now”.
Now imagine how this space in your brain works if you were trying to focus on something that was in front of you, but you were just in the middle of some very frustrating social situation that you just couldn’t stop and focus on. That space in your brain would be like a hamster with a small cage. That small space would also be like a hamster being stuck in a tiny cage.
For many people, thinking about a social situation is a pain. The thought of having to do it again takes up half of our brain and our attention. The fact is that thinking about social situations is bad for our brains. Studies have shown that individuals who are thinking about a social situation are more likely to get depressed. We know this because those who have thought about a social situation are more likely to go on to develop clinical depression. The same is true if we are focused on something else.
The problem comes when we are simultaneously thinking about other things and focusing on social situations. This is why we need to limit our distractions. When we try to think about something else but instead of focusing on something else, we focus on our social situation, and that’s where our attention goes. We can’t turn off our brain’s default mode and stop thinking about anything. The default mode needs to be controlled.
This is why we need to avoid social situations altogether. We don’t need to keep our attention on the people or things around us. The default mode should be turned off. We need to learn new habits to get our focus to go away other places.
One of the most common distractions our brains have is our social networks. We think that social networking is somehow different. Our friends are just as important as the people we meet in real life. But social networking is not the same as real life. We need to be aware of its limitations.
Social networking is a great way of gathering people together, but it is a very limited space. One of the biggest problems is that it is impossible to meet with people of all ages and all social strata. You can only meet your friends, or your parents, or your relatives. You can only get together with people you know and have interacted with before. Your friends are the same. You can only meet with friends you are already friends with.
The point is, you need to actually be in the same space and do things in the same order every day. Not everybody needs to be in the same place at the same time. At least we’re not in the same place. We may have the same friends, but we all have to be aware of that.
It’s the same with micro-focus careers. If you’re not in the same place, you have to get in the same place. You can always get together with people who live nearby, but you need to know where you’re going and get there on time. That’s how you keep your micro-focus.
