When it comes to executive search, every year seems to be the same. It’s a race to the finish, and you can’t think about things at all until you have your job offer in mind. Because once you start looking at it, you have to make decisions, and you can’t think about them until you have the job offer in your hands.
It takes time to build a good network, and once you know what you are looking for, you have to look around to find it. This is where the work starts, and if you want to be successful at finding what you want, you have to be looking for it. You can’t spend time looking for it and then find it. The only way to do this is to look at people who already have what you want, and then work from there.
In the video above, John Walsh (exec search) talks about a few things that you need to know to start working on your next job. First, you need to write a cover letter, because you want to get an offer. Second, you need to think about what you are looking for, and then work from there. Third, once you have your cover letter, you are going to need a resume, because you want to go to interview.
For a first step in this process, John walks you through outlining your resume. He suggests that you don’t write a cover letter, because it’s not as important, but a resume will be a very important part of your interview. Again, John shows you how to write a resume and he also gives you some specific advice on what types of resume you should look for.
John really is one of the best resume writers out there. He has a wide variety of experience and styles, so you can pick and choose when you are interviewing. For example, he suggests that you should focus on a few key skills that you have which should be the first thing you talk about. His advice is pretty simple and straight forward.
Exec search is a tricky part of the job search. You have to be able to write a resume, and often your resume is a list of things you have done, not a list of skills. For example, if you are applying for a job with a company that only has one person who does a lot of interviewing, and you are very experienced, you want to write a resume that shows that.
But most of all, you want to write a resume that shows that you have done a lot of interviewing. That means you don’t want to list all of your skills as there are a lot of great ones and only a few that are worth mentioning. To avoid sounding like you are trying to sell yourself as a salesman, you want to list only what you do. For example, you don’t want to list all of your past employers when you’re applying for a job.
