Citizen shipping is the idea that every single one of us should become a member of our own little independent nation. We should live, work, and play our lives as if we were a single, autonomous citizen with the power to express our own opinions, goals, and desires.
The idea of citizen ships is nothing new. They’ve been around since the early 1990s and were popularized in Russia during the civil war-ruined 1990s. In the UK, there was a project called “citizen ships” that was launched during the same time that the idea of citizen ships in the US was taking off.
Citizen ships have always been a very popular idea. In the UK, the UK National Shipping Association was started in 1990. As far as I know, however, the idea wasn’t that popular in the US. As far as I can tell, citizen shipping exists in the US in a very limited way. There are currently two projects that are working on building citizen ships in the US: one in Los Angeles by the Sea Foundation and one in Portland, Oregon, by the Oregon Sea Institute.
It isn’t clear how citizen ships work in the US, but I suspect that citizen ships are built for “tourist” reasons. Tourists might find it convenient to ship their families from one place to another.
Citizen ships are typically a form of air cargo. The idea is that, instead of people paying a fee to be carried by air, the transportation cost is paid by a company that owns the ship, so the price of said air transportation is cheap.
Citizens are not actually passengers, but they do have the right of free movement. It’s not clear how the citizens are being carried, but I suspect that they are probably people who want to go to a place they’ve never been. I can’t imagine how they would make the trip if they were being carried by a government plane.
Citizen shipping is a bit of a stretch. But I think this is the kind of thing that may have been a little more common a couple of years ago.
Citizen shipping is a form of “citizen shuttle.” The idea is to transport citizens to places where they can be entertained by entertainment, and then pick them up at the end of the show.
Citizen shipping is just a big form of citizen relocation. Essentially, it’s the same idea, but instead of citizens being transported (and sometimes killed) by a government plane, they are transported by a citizen ship. It’s a bit of a stretch, but it’s not unreasonable to imagine that some people would take this concept seriously.
Citizen shipping is an urban exploration game in which you and your fellow citizens are the crew of a ship. It may sound like a silly concept to us, but I’ve met a lot of people who have been on ship. As a result, the idea of citizen shipping is a lot like that of transportation as a metaphor for how we do things. We transport stuff, we move stuff, we even move ourselves.
