I have always been interested in the art of interior design, but I didn’t know much about it before I got my Bachelor of Fine Arts from Syracuse University. So I decided to take my passion in designing for a class called “The Art of Interior Design” in hopes of learning how to build a client’s vision.
I love all those beautiful, delicate details inside a home and I wanted to learn how to create those details into my creations. So I decided to take the class that I’d been working on for months and in just four days I was off to New York to attend the New York Accenture Internship with Toni and Guy at Accenture, a design firm specializing in interior design.
After taking the class, I was given the opportunity to work with my mentor, Toni. She’s a senior design assistant at Accenture, but is also very serious about her career. She has a reputation for being the most knowledgeable of anyone I’ve met in the industry. I have to say, that was a refreshing change. The other senior assistants in the class all seemed to be very laid back, “not like me,” people.
The class was very intense. I think I had a few “gut feelings” about the whole situation and felt like I had to write all my notes on my planner. Toni was amazing. She made me feel like I was part of the team and that I had absolutely nothing to worry about. I was also very interested in the internship opportunity, but I was also worried that I might be too young to work in this industry.
I ended up getting the chance to intern at a company called accenture, and I have to say, they were really cool. I had to go to a few lectures about the interning process, but my internship was more about working with the other interns than being a new employee. I had the opportunity to help a small group of interns run the company while they were working on their internships. It was fun to work for an organization that had a lot of fun perks.
The company itself is a large, well-known design studio in Sweden. They produce a lot of furniture and other objects that are made from materials like plastics and leather. While I was there I did an internship with their design department. We were tasked with creating a logo for a product that was in development. We came up with a logo that was easy to use and easy to read.
It was a great experience because I got to work with some really cool people. The office is very small and I was able to work with a lot of the people that make the product. It was definitely a job where you can go home on weekends and talk about what you just did.
I liked the internship because the people that I was working with were very helpful and open-minded. They had a lot of questions and problems to solve and we were able to work through those. It also seemed like the interns were able to take the time to learn a little more about what I was doing so we didn’t waste too much time on small details that could have been easily solved by a designer.
The product itself was a lot of fun to work on and I’m definitely a fan of the way the company handled marketing. I think part of the reason it felt so fresh was because it was a “new product” and the people who worked on it were very enthusiastic about it. They were really positive and engaged with the product.
Not only do you have to deal with the usual issues, but you also have to deal with an even wider range of opinions. This was very apparent during the design process. We had to make decisions about everything from lighting to character models to the placement of the camera when it was in shot. It was a very difficult process and, in the end, we were extremely happy with the end product, but it also had a huge learning curve.
