One of the most common questions I hear from my clients is how do they know when their home is ready to move in. The truth is that this is a very personal process, so it shouldn’t be a one-size-fits-all answer. However, I have found that a few simple questions can get you a lot closer to your home’s ready to move point, and help you make some educated decisions.
Here are a couple of key questions you can ask to figure out how your home is set up for your specific lifestyle.
First, is your home built for high-end living? Are you looking for more natural light, or are you looking to add a few amenities to your home? These are all design decisions that could impact how you feel about your new space.
Another question you can ask is “How many people would you like to live in your home?” It is a great way to figure out how much extra space you actually need. If you’re like most Americans, it’s probably in the neighborhood of 1,000 square feet. Anything more than that is going to make your life miserable. Also, ask how you would feel if you had to rent out your home to bring in another person.
The way to figure out the answer to the first question is to think about what you would need if you were going to move into your own apartment. If you were to rent it out, you don’t need as much as you would if you were living in a house. You would most likely only need one to two bedrooms, a kitchen, and a bathroom. You will also most likely want a garage and a utility room. You can see the logic in that.
There’s also a lot of people who say that they would like a house with a carport. This is a bit of a stretch on the part of the people who say this, but I just think that if you don’t need a carport, then you certainly don’t need an apartment.
You might not need a carport, but a carport might still be nice. You can also rent out your garage and put your car in it if you want. Carports are a bit on the pricey side, but they are a nice amenity to have while saving room for things like a dining room table.
In our neighborhood we have several spaces that have been converted into garages that are now available for rent. You can get a space for as little as $50 an month, and the prices go up based on what space you’re renting. This is an awesome option for people who are moving from an apartment to a house. The more space you have, the more you can save on utilities.
We were just looking for a place to live for a few years, and we didn’t want to live in a city. I felt the same way about the city I grew up in, and I thought buying a home was the easiest way to do it because there were no real downsides.
